MUSICAL HOOPS

Description: Each student is given a hoop and finds a spot in the playing area. When the music starts, the teacher tells the students how to move by giving them a movement pattern such as running, skipping, hopping, galloping, leaping, etc. When the music stops, the students must all quickly go find a hoop to stand in.

Layer 1:
  • have the students pick a spot with their hoop that is all their own
  • practice moving in the open space while avoiding others

Progressions:
  • when stopping the music, the teacher can yell out a colour and the students can only step into hoops of that colour
  • do not allow more than a certain number of people to share a hoop
  • call out a body part that must be touching the hoop when the music stops
