Description: In this game, every student is a tagger, and all the students attempt to tag each other. If tagged, a student must freeze on the spot and go into a simple balancing position and hands held out with palms facing up. In order to get freed, another student must come and tap on the frozen student's hands three times and say “you're free!”. When freeing a fellow class member, it is not possible to get tagged, therefore this position is base.

Layer 1:
  • walk around the playing area while avoiding others

Layer 2:
  • play with everyone tagging each other
  • create base when freeing someone

Layer 3:
  • introduce static bases such as nose and toes to save the person being chased

Progressions:
  • if a student has been frozen for too long and not getting freed, he or she may auto-defrost by doing 5 jumping jacks to rejoin the game
  • use pool noodles no tag other players instead of hands

Safety:
  • students should keep their heads up when running and look in the direction which they are running in
  • use soft tags
