CROWS ON A LINE

Activity Level: low
QEP: Competency II
Equipment: hockey sticks
Formation: line
Tactics: teamwork, problem-solving

Description: A line of hockey sticks is set on the ground, and all the students must stand on them, pretending to be crows who are perched on electrical wires in the city. The crows will be asked to accomplish a certain task, but they must do so without falling off the wire or else they will get hit my one of the cars in the busy city street. The task that they need to accomplish will be called out by the teacher, and will be something that will create an order. For example, the line might have the be in alphabetical order, from tallest to shortest, or darkest hair to lightest hair, etc. Therefore, the class must work together in order to get everyone in the right order without having anyone fall off the wire.

Progressions:
  • if students “fall off” the wire, they can become little crow angels who can help guide the line to go in order
  • the crow angel must always be one meter away from the wire
  • have every second person facing the opposite directions
  • allow only boys or girls to talk for one round and vice versa
  • have 2 lines competing against each other to see who can do it fastest and most effectively

Safety:
  • no pushing
  • the wire should not be placed close to a wall
